Report Names The Two Midfielders Frank Lampard ‘Is Not Convinced’ About As Club Continue Rice Pursuit

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard “is not convinced” that Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are suitable to play in his system, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues are continuing their pursuit of Declan Rice and it appears the major motivation behind the club’s interest in the West Ham midfielder is the fact that Lampard doesn’t rate either Jorginho or Kovacic despite playing both of them regularly.

Jorginho captained Chelsea, as well as scoring and providing an assist, in the 3-1 win against Brighton on Monday night so it hardly seems like the player is in Lampard’s bad books. The same could be said for Kovacic, with the Croatian having made 47 appearances last season.

A move for Rice doesn’t appear to be imminent anyway, mainly due to West Ham’s reluctance to sell the 21-year-old, who has an asking price close to £80m. A formal offer could yet be made before deadline day, though, if the Blues manage to raise funds by selling some fringe players.
