Chelsea could still miss out on RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku with the Frenchman “willing to wait” and see whether Real Madrid make an approach for him, according to OK Diario.

The Spanish website claims that, while the Blues are “on pole” to secure the forward’s services, there is is “no pre-agreement signed” between the player and the London club.

In fact, Nkunku is still considering other potential destinations with it being reported that the France international would “be delighted” to play at the Bernabeu.

There are, though a number of reasons that suggest that a move to Real is unlikely at the moment. The La Liga champions would have to find the funds to match the 24-year-old’s €60m (£52m) release clause. On top of that Nkunku is not certain he wants to compete with Karim Benzema for a place in Real’s starting lineup.

Those factors mean that Chelsea are still frontrunners for Nkunku’s signature but they will be very keen to make sure that the player puts pen to paper on a formal agreement.
