European Giants On Alert With Chelsea Star At Loggerheads With Club Over New Deal

Negotiations between Chelsea and Willian over a new contract have stalled, according to Brazilian news outlet UOL.

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires in 2020 and the Blues will only offer the winger a one-year extension.

Willian is looking for three more years but the London club have a strict policy of only offering yearly renewals to players over 30.

Both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing the Brazilian international during the January transfer window, and it is believed the player is confident of joining another high profile team if he runs down his contract.

Considering Chelsea were offered a deal valued at £50m by Barca last month, the Blues would be desperate to prevent him leaving for nothing in 18 months time.

However, as with David Luiz, it appears director Marina Granovskaia is not going to adjust the club’s contract policy. Whether that will mean Willian departs the club in the summer, it is not known.
