Chelsea superstar and academy graduate Mason Mount looks set to leave Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer transfer window – but the Blues will demand a bid of ‘more than £70 million’ for him to depart the club [via Sky Sports].

As things stand, Manchester United appear to be the leaders in the race to snap up the 24-year-old. Additionally, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are also in the hunt.

Mount’s Chelsea contract is set to expire in June of 2024. With no fresh deal on the horizon, several clubs are circling in an attempt to bring him on board.

Chelsea have often come under criticism for favouring big-name international superstars over their home-grown talents. It is an issue that existed under Roman Abramovich – with Todd Boehly now in the driver’s seat, it won’t go away any time soon.

With that being said, Mount has undoubtedly underperformed this season. In 24 Premier League appearances, he has scored just three goals alongside two assists. If Chelsea do decide to cash in on the Portsmouth-born boy, it may be a good time to do so.

Mount played for amateur clubs such as Boarhunt Rovers and United Services Portsmouth as a child, before making the jump to Chelsea’s academy in 2005, when he was just six years of age.

In 2017, he was promoted to Chelsea’s first team – however, his first taste of senior football would come at Vitesse, for whom he scored nine goals in 29 games.

After a successful loan spell with Frank Lampard’s Derby County, he made his first-team debut at Chelsea in August 2019. With the Blues under a transfer embargo, they were forced into using their homegrown youngsters, which ultimately was of benefit to Chelsea, as they secured a top four finish that season.

Since then, Mount has won a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups with Chelsea – he also helped to guide England to the Euro 2020 final, where they were beaten by Italy.
