REPORT: Chelsea Finalise Signing Of 18-Year-Old Wonderkid

Chelsea have snapped up 18-year-old Alex Matos from Norwich City on a permanent deal, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

He will join Chelsea’s U21 team on a free transfer. Despite this, Chelsea will still have to pay Norwich money in the form of add-ons.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Understand Chelsea have completed Alex Matos signing — documents and contracts sealed in the last 24h. U-18 talent born in 2004, Matos joins from Norwich on free transfer with add-ons; part of Jim Fraser project, pushing for signing to build top U21 squad.”

Blues owner Todd Boehly is hellbent on hoovering up as many wonderkids as possible – Matos is merely the latest addition to the American’s collection.

A right winger by trade, Matos can also play as an attacking midfielder and as a left winger. This adaptability will help him settle into Chelsea’s first team nicely when he is ready for the promotion to first-team football. In the past, he has made appearances for England’s U15s team.

A skilful dribbler, Matos also possesses blistering speed and impressive technical ability for such a young player. While he isn’t physically ready for the Premier League as of yet, this will hopefully come in time.
