REPORT: Chelsea ‘Considering’ Hijacking City’s Deal To Sign 50M Rated Spanish Star

Chelsea are “considering” whether to make a “late swoop” for Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, according to the Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

Manchester City have been in negotiations to sign the Spanish international but talks have stalled after the Seagulls slapped a £50m asking price on the defender.

The Premier League champions are only willing to offer around £35m for Cucurella, which has been deemed unacceptable, and that leaves Chelsea with an opportunity to hijack negotiations.

One potential obstacle is that the player is believed to have his heart set on a move to City, as he is very keen to work with Pep Guardiola. However, the opportunity to play Champions League football will be very tempting.

Chelsea do need a new left-wingback. Marcos Alonso wants to return to Spain, and Cucurella’s experience of playing the position makes him an ideal candidate to provide competition for the likes of Ben Chilwell.
