REPORT: Chelsea ‘Close’ To Appointing New Manager

Chelsea are ‘close’ to finalising the appointment of former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG boss, Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report by TalkSPORT.

Pochettino has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League since he was sacked by PSG in July 2022. While he was linked with a return to Tottenham, Chelsea appears to be the Argentinian mastermind’s preferred destination.

He will take over from Frank Lampard, who will leave the club upon the expiry of his short-term interim manager contract. Blues fans will be hoping for a massive improvement – Lampard has won just one game during his second managerial stint at the club.

A tough task presents itself for Pochettino. Chelsea have plenty of talent within their ranks, but they also have a bloated squad that is completely shot of confidence. Additionally, the Blues are also set to miss out on European football next season, as they currently sit 11th in the Premier League table with four games left to play.

Success for Pochettino may not be instantaneous – his most impressive feats to date are winning Ligue 1 with PSG and reaching the Chmapions League final with Spurs. Despite this, he has only won two major trophies over the course of his managerial career and frequently came under criticism during his time at PSG.
