Ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has backed his former club to go after Leicester defender Wesley Fofana this summer.
The Blues have been linked with the 21-year-old over the past eighteen months and Johnson has drawn comparisons between the young centre-back and Manchester United’s Raphael Varane:
“I love him to be honest, I think he’s fantastic. He reminds me of Raphael Varane; quick, good on the ball, strong I think Wesley Fofana would be a very good replacement for Antonio Rudiger at Chelsea. Not long ago he wasn’t even in the France squad, which blew my mind because he was unbelievable. I like him a lot.”
Fofana is undoubtedly a very good player but it’s likely that the Blues’ recruitment department have cooled their interest due to the player’s recent injury problems.
The centre-half has spent most of the campaign on the treatment table after breaking his leg in pre-season. He has, though, returned to full fitness in recent weeks, having played three of Leicester’s last six Premier League fixtures.
As we mentioned in an article yesterday, Chelsea do have plenty of targets in mind to strengthen the centre of defence and, while Fofana may not be under consideration at the moment, he could come back onto the club’s radar in the future.
