Reece James Alternative ‘Could Leave’ Serie A Giants For 34M But Chelsea May Still Fail In January Bid

Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries “could leave” the Serie A side if a club bids €40m (£34m), according to TMW editor Niccolo Ceccarini.

The journalist claims that Chelsea are the team likeliest to make an offer for the Netherlands international, with the player seemingly being lined up as a potential alternative to Reece James.

Since the England star suffered a knee injury, the club have struggled for a solution on the right flank, having tried the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic and even Hakim Ziyech without much success.

The aim is to find a player during the January transfer window who could take some of the weight off James’ shoulders, with Dumfries being seen as the best candidate.

However, Ceccarini has confirmed that Inter may block a deal midway through the season with the Nerazzurri expected to sanction a sale “no earlier than June”. Whether Chelsea could persuade the Serie A side into selling up before then, we shall have to wait and see.
