RANKED: The Five Midfielders Chelsea Could Sign Before The Transfer Window Closes

Chelsea are expected to be very busy ahead of next Tuesday’s transfer deadline. Despite already signing seven players this month, two to three more could arrive in the coming days.

A central midfielder appears to be one of the main priorities, and it is not a surprise that the Blues have been linked with plenty of players in that position.

With the likes of Jorginho and, potentially, N’Golo Kante leaving when their contracts expire next summer, it’s an area of the pitch that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Press the next page as we rank the midfielders Chelsea could sign based on how likely it is they will move to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window slams shut.

5) Franck Kessie

According to reliable journalist Matt Law, the Ivorian international is still being considered as a potential loan option if the Blues can’t secure any other players on permanent deals.

Kessie performed well for AC Milan when the Rossoneri won the Serie A title last season but he has been a bit-part player since moving to Barcelona in the summer. He would not be a long-term solution to Chelsea’s midfield problems.

4) Amadou Onana

It has emerged that the Belgian international is being seriously considered as a target by Graham Potter’s side, despite only making the £33m switch to Everton in the summer.

Financial Fair Play concerns mean Onana could be sold, although Chelsea may also have to fend off interest from Arsenal and Newcastle. At 21 years of age, the midfielder does fit the profile, but there are question marks about his technical ability and whether he suits Potter’s style of play.

3) Romeo Lavia

The second Belgian on this list, and another player who only moved clubs at the start of the season, the teenager is known to have plenty of admirers among the Blues’ recruitment team.

Having had a £50m bid rejected by Southampton for Lavia in the summer, there is a chance that Chelsea may chance their arm with another offer before the transfer window closes next week.

2) Moises Caicedo

With the Ecuadorian international having now officially changed agents, there is a growing likelihood that a deal could happen before the transfer deadline.

However, Caicedo does have interest from other teams (including Liverpool and Arsenal), while Brighton are unlikely to budge on their £75m asking price.  The Blues will probably will have to meet the valuation if they want to get this deal sewn up this month.

1) Enzo Fernandez

After a botched attempt to recruit the World Cup winner at the start of the month, it appears that another approach is being lined up ahead of deadline day.

Chelsea are still believed to be hopeful that they can persuade Benfica to sell for below Fernandez’s €120m (£106m) release clause but that is likely to be wishful thinking. The London club will probably have to stump up the full amount up front to get this transfer finalised.
