Ramires Going Nowhere – Mourinho Reassures

A revelation last season and one of their most consistent performers in the squad, Chelsea’s defensive midfielder, Ramires, has been reassured of his spot in Jose Mourinho’s squad for next season, after the club’s existing crop being rumored to be unsure about places.

Mourinho’s entry at the club has changed much of the scenario, and has not just injected excitement in the squad, but also nerves for next season. Each player will have to prove their worth once again to a new manager, and that can be unsettling for some players. Having trained with a certain manager for some time, and established a place in the starting eleven, repetition of the process with a new man in-charge can get frustrating for players. Also, given the power of the media in today’s world, links with other clubs do not take much time to report in the press.

In such a scenario, Mourinho will have to calm down proceedings with individual players, to make sure they perform without any undue pressure. Every player would want to make the best of the summer transfer window if the manager plans to keep him sidelined for majority of the season.

Ramires has been a sensational player for the club, and perhaps one who has adapted his style of play to the Barclays Premier League very well. The Brazilian came into the club as a defensive passer of the ball, known for his agility and speed of switching plays. It remains a professional player’s duty to serve his objectives, but also assist others in the process, and Ramires has perfected this art.

The 26-year old was often seen last season cutting in gaps and tricking opposition defenders to make sudden bursts of pace. This is surely a newly developed side to the player, who has also been in good scoring touch for the club. The former Benfica player scored 9 goals in all competitions last season, a major contribution for a player traditionally responsible for a defensive minded position.

According to Metro, Mourinho made it a point to speak to the Brazilian over telephone, talking in length about next season.

Ramires said, “I’m hugely excited about getting down to work with Mourinho. He called me a few days ago, out of the blue, which was a surprise to me.”

“We talked a lot and he said a lot of nice things to me, including the fact that he tried to sign me from Benfica when he was at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid.”

“Mourinho told me he was very happy to have me at Chelsea. I was very glad to hear that and told him he can count on me.”

“I said, ‘I’ll do everything in my power to help you be victorious in this new spell at the club.”
