PSG star reveals he snubbed Chelsea on deadline day

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has claimed he turned down the opportunity to join Chelsea on transfer deadline day during the summer.

Chelsea were known to be in the market for a right back all summer long, and eventually signed Davide Zappacosta from Torino in the final hours of deadline day.

However, it seems perhaps the Italian was not their first choice option, and Meunier says he could have joined the Blues if not for him wanting to fight for his place at PSG.

The arrival of Dani Alves at PSG has made it incredibly difficult for Meunier to get regular football, and speaking to Eleven Sports, though, the full-back revealed: “I was waiting for a signing at right-back but not Dani Alves.

“When he arrived I did not know what to think, I wondered if I would still play or stay on the bench.

“I could have joined Chelsea in the final day of the transfer window, but I didn’t want to.”

Meunier has previously spoken out about joining the Premier League, back in February the defender admitted his love for Manchester United.

“On the other side of the Channel, there are the stadiums, the fans.

“And I’ve never hidden that I’m a big fan of Manchester United, which remains, in my eyes, the real reference in the world of football.”
