PSG Bid For Cavani: Chelsea May Turn To Rooney (Or Suarez)

Reports emerging in France suggest Paris St. Germain have finally made the first official move by any club for the sale of Napoli superstar Edinson Cavani, leaving Chelsea to look to Wayne Rooney and Robert Lewandowski if they are outbid for the Uruguayan or Luis Suarez if my colleague is to be believed.

Jose Mourinho’s second stint at Stamford Bridge kicked off this week, but the former Real Madrid manager will be keen to push transfer deals through before it gets too late. Roman Abramovich recently completed a decade in charge at the club, and his ambitions seem limitless with the aggressive approach to his transfer targets.

Cavani has hit an incredible run of form for his national side, with the tag of arguably the squad’s most effective player on the pitch. His side finished fourth in the competition, after losing to Italy on penalties in the third place playoff. The Uruguayan striker was in demand before the competition, but gained a considerable amount of goodwill during the event, which comes as excellent news for Napoli, who now have reason to inflate the price.

Unsettled star Rooney has been attending regularly at the Manchester United training center, as speculation looms large over his future at the club. With new manager David Moyes leading this season’s title campaign, Rooney has put in a second transfer request in recent times, increasing frustration for the club’s supporters and officials. According to DailyMail, PSG have surplus funds available to finance the biggest of deals.

Another player who has been linked with moves throughout the season is Borussia Dortmund striker Lewandowski, who has been in sublime form for the side. His contribution was key to Dortmund reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League last season, and had reportedly struck a deal with Bayern Munich over a move. However, having already sold Mario Gotze to the German champions, Dortmund have blocked Lewandowski’s move to the Allianz Arena, at least for this summer.

Either way, things can turn very quickly in the summer transfer market, and the next couple of weeks should give more clarity about which club manages to snap up Cavani, where Rooney will play next season and if Suarez moves to Chelsea or Real Madrid.
