PSG ace reveals previously unknown link with Chelsea as a youngster

PSG star Kylian Mbappe has revealed a previously unknown link with Chelsea after saying he spent time with the Premier League club as a youngster.

Initially signed on loan, Mbappe will become the second most expensive player of all time when he completes his £160 million move from AS Monaco to the PSG outfit at the end of the season.

The Parisian giants snapped up Mbappe after a terrific breakthrough season with Monaco in which he scored 26-goals to help Les Monégasques win Ligue 1 and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

However – little known to anyone – Mbappe’s rise to prominence could have come instead with Chelsea.

The Frenchman recently revealed he spent time with the South West Londoners as a kid, and insist he has fond memories of his brief time at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking exclusively in the April 2018 issue of FourFourTwo, Mbappe says: “I was still young back then, maybe 10 or 11. I went to London and spent just under a week over there. I trained at Chelsea and we played a friendly match against Charlton Athletic.

“We won 6-0 or 7-0. I played upfront, but I don’t think I scored. It was great – it was my first experience abroad and a chance for me to see what the game was like in England.”

As fate would have it however, the French wonderkid instead chose AS Monaco as the place to best develop his future.

And it was a decision that paid dividends, with Mbappe now highly regarded as one of the world’s most best young talents.

Since joining PSG in the summer, Mbappe has found his feet quickly at the Stade De France, scoring 16 times this season for Unai Emery’s side, and despite offers from all over the globe following his breakthrough season with Monaco, the France international has no regrets at choosing to move back to his city of birth.

“For me, it felt like the right moment, and the right choice,” he explains. “PSG are a huge club and they want to win every trophy. I want to win every trophy as well, so it felt like we both had a common goal and an opportunity to develop together.”
