It takes a lot of guts to step up and take a penalty kick – especially in such a high-stakes competition as the Premier League. Here’s four players who have scored the most from the spot this season.

In this piece, we’ll be looking at the four Premier League players who have found the back of the net from the spot the most times this season. Who’s had ice in their veins in 2023/24?

For reference, we will only be counting penalties that took place during a 90 minute game. Any penalties taken as part of a shoot-out will not be considered.

In the list, we’ll be examining players from Brighton and Hove Albion, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Before we begin, can you guess who they are?

Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro has proven his worth to Brighton in spades this season. Perhaps most notably, his composure in front of goal has been a great asset to them.

He’s developed into an expert penalty taker – so far, the Brazilian has scored four goals from the spot this season. Moreover, he has yet to miss any.

At just 22, Pedro is perhaps one of the league’s most underrated young talents. His mental attributes, for someone so young, are certainly something to be admired.

Bukayo Saka

The most famous penalty Bukayo Saka took was his miss in the Euro 2020 final against Italy for England – it says a lot about his character that he has continued to take them since then.

Moreover, he’s also shown that he can take them in a cool, composed manner. As things stand, Arsenal’s diamond has scored four penalties so far this season.

That fateful day in 2021 would have shattered the confidence of most young players. Not Saka, however – he has seemingly used it as motivation to grow into the megastar he is today.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah takes the number two spot on our list. Like Saka and Joao Pedro, he has also netted four penalties – however, he has done so in the fewest amount of games.

Salah has struggled with injury niggles in 2023/24, but he has not let this get in his way. He has been at his brilliant best this season – including from the spot.

Despite this, the Egyptian is the only player on our list to have missed a penalty this season. In fact, he has missed two – nevertheless, four out of six isn’t bad.

Cole Palmer

Taking the top spot on our list is Chelsea’s star summer signing, Cole Palmer. The Blues brought plenty of top stars to the club in pre-season – but none have impressed quite as much as the former Manchester City man.

Palmer has the most penalty goals under his belt this season, finding the back of the net from the spot five times. Each of his penalties have been textbook – he seems to have a real talent for it.

At just 21 years of age, the sky is the limit for Palmer. He has all the ability in the world and a solid mindset to back it up – he deserves a chance to play for England in the Euros.
