Chelsea and Premier League legend Didier Drogba has said that he ‘does not recognise’ the current Chelsea team in a scathing criticism.

Drogba leveed his aire at Chelsea’s current owner, Todd Boehly, and his often-derided transfer policies. He feels that Chelsea should not ‘bet on young players’ and instead should opt to sign more experienced talents to go along with them.

Speaking to Canal+, Drogba said: “It is not the same club anymore. I don’t recognise my club. There is a new owner and a new vision.

“A dressing room with 30 players is difficult to manage for the coach, whoever he is. We try to compare with what was done under the Abramovich era, where there were many acquisitions of players, but the choices were very intelligent.

“Bringing in players like Petr Cech, Andriy Shevchenko, Hernan Crespo, Michael Essien, Florent Malouda, and I go on. It was to win titles and they are players who already have some experience. Here the strategy is different, they bet on young players. I think they certainly lack charismatic players and leaders. It needs players who take responsibility.”

Chelsea are currently 11th in the Premier League table, having picked up just ten wins all season – additionally, they have only won three of their last six league games.

The Blues spent over £300 million on playing staff in January, bringing in talents such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke – so far, their profligate spending has yet to pay off.
