Potter Has ‘Asked The Owners’ To Recruit French Flyer With 43M Release Clause

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has “asked the owners” to make a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The France international was a target for previous head coach Thomas Tuchel but it looks as if Potter is keen on securing the player’s services too.

Dembele turned down overtures from other teams to sign a new deal with Barca last summer but his contract was only extended until 2024.

On top of that, a €50m (£43m) release clause was included, which means Chelsea can make a move for the pacey forward in January or at the end of the season without needing to get involved in any lengthy negotiations.

Whether Dembele would still be tempted by a switch to Stamford Bridge now Tuchel is not at the club, it is hard to know. He has previously expressed his admiration for his former coach and it’s doubtful that Potter would have the same pulling power.
