Possible Changes That Could Happen At Stamford Bridge

There are a lot of gaps that will need to be filled in by the end of June. Chelsea will need to increase fire power and will also need a defender or two. It`s possible that a midfielder will be needed as well if Obi Mikel is let go. Even though there are a lot of unknown variables, with the biggest being who will take over from Hiddink, some facts seem set in stone. Departures and arrivals are always interesting to analyze so let`s take a look at those rumors that will not go down regardless of who takes over at Stamford Bridge.

  1. Hazard’s departure – rumors of the Belgian international replacing Ronaldo at Madrid have been circulating since the summer of 2015. It is more than likely that the news regarding this move will be flowing as soon as the next transfer window opens, especially with Real Madrid in danger of not being able to sign anyone new starting with 2017. We can surely say that Hazard will not be leaving as he still has a lot to prove and a lot to do in London. He will very likely take over from Terry, become captain and start competing with Neymar for the Ballon D’Or.
  2. Oscar to Juventus – the midfielder still has 3 years of contract. Extending that contract for this 24-year-old is just a matter of time. Surely Oscar will be around for at least 5 or 6 more. Seeing him leave for Juventus is highly unlikely as he is one of the most important players in the lot.
  3. Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid – there`s a lot of fuss regarding a possible return to Atletico for Diego Costa. Why would that happen is something hard to figure out. Even Atletico’s captain Gabi issued a statement in which he says Costa would be welcomed back. Even so, Costa seems like the kind of player who is looking for a constant challenge and who will not return to a team for which he already performed. The Spaniard is under contract until 2019 which means he will be around for at least 3 more years.
  4. Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge – the Argentinian is indeed one of the most in form strikers in Europe. Just as Lacazette or Cavani though, they are not faced with teams like Arsenal, City, Liverpool or United on a regular basis. Currently the Serie A’s competitive level has dropped with Juventus being the only team strong enough to handle Premier League teams. Add to that the fact that Napoli’s striker is 28 which is one year older than Costa and you start to get why he will not be signed by The Blues.
  5. Diego Godin to replace Terry – why would anyone think Chelsea will spend money on a 30-year-old defender is hard to tell. According to Metro, Godin is rumored to replace Terry if there will be no contract extension on the table It would be very strange to see Godin at Stamford Bridge especially after what happened with Filipe Luis. It would be even stranger to see the club spend money on Atletico’s player instead of keeping Terry who is still fit enough to play at the highest level possible.
