Porto’s Jackson Martinez Linked To Chelsea Once Again

There is just a little over a month left until the winter transfer window will be open. Several interesting moves are expected to take place especially with many clubs in the Premier League looking to improve their squads. Chelsea is amongst those names and has been since the beginning of the season. They are missing a striker at the moment considering Demba Ba’s lack of efficiency in front of goal, Torres is coming back from injury and Eto’o is out for 2 weeks and definitely the Southampton game. After the press suggested Falcao could be the Blues’ next top scorer for the months to come, other solutions have emerged.

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Jackson Martinez’s name is once again linked to Mourinho’s team. The Colombian international is a pure number 9 and would fit perfectly with Chelsea’s playing style. His impressive goal scoring record and his impressive physique make him a great alternative to compatriot Radamel Falcao who many believe will eventually make it to Stamford Bridge – let’s hope he makes it to Chelsea before he is 33 like Eto’o.

Martinez has been with Porto since 2012. He is currently the team’s leading scorer and has shown excellent form which is a definite plus over Falcao this season. The 27 year old has a problem though. Chelsea are involved in three major competitions but according to the preseason statements, the Champions League trophy is their main priority. With that in mind, they might not want to spend £30 million on a player who will not have the right to perform because he has already played for Porto in this year’s competition. On the other hand, Falcao could play for Chelsea in the Champions League because of the fact that Monaco was not featured in any European competition for the 2013-2014 season.

Porto’s Colombian striker has a £30 million buy-out clause which will probably keep him tied to his club at least until the end of the season. Besides Chelsea there aren’t that many clubs in need of his services or capable of paying such a significant amount of money for his signature. Arsenal have also shown interest in Martinez but it is hard to believe they will make a move, considering Giroud’s great form. Mourinho will have to make a tough decision sometime during January as it is possible that both players could move to London – stranger things have happened!
