Following Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend, there was clearly a lot of concern among fans over whether manager Frank Lampard was up to the job.
Those fears were eased midweek when the Blues took Liverpool all the way to a penalty shootout in the UEFA Super Cup. Although Tammy Abraham’s missed penalty meant that the team lost out on a trophy, it has to be said that the Blues put in a very good display.
For long spells, they were the better side, and if the players put in that sort of effort and application in their upcoming fixtures, there should be no need for supporters to fret over what will happen to the team this campaign.
There will be ups and downs this season, especially with young players being introduced to the side, while Lampard also has to cope with some injuries.
This Playmaker FC pundit was speaking before Chelsea’s excellent performance on Wednesday night, but his insistence that fans must stay calm as Lampard gets to grips with the job still rings true.
