With the transfer window closed and Chelsea managing to pull off a couple of stunning late bits of business, Maurizio Sarri certainly has his team transformed from the side which meekly succumbed 2-0 to Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Chelsea overcame the appeal of Manchester City to sign midfield maestro Jorginho who chose to join his former Napoli boss at Stamford Bridge and then the Blues signed keeper Kepa for a cool £73million from Atletico Bilbao to replace their number one keeper, Thibaut Courtois, who they sold to Real Madrid. Chelsea then managed to sign Croatian World Cup star, midfielder Mateo Kovacic on a season long loan.

There is some doubt but it is reported that the Blues will have the option to buy the Croatian star at the end of the season and that option may well turn out to be one Chelsea will look to take advantage of.

Kovacic was not a regular starter for what was Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid team last season as the midfielder generally appeared from the bench finding it tough to beat out the quality of countryman Luka Modric or World Cup winner Toni Kroos for a place in the 1st team.

This season however the attacking flair of the 24 year old Croat may well be suited to playing alongside the rock-solid N’Golo Kante and the “passmaster” that is Jorginho so we may well get to see Kovacic especially as Cesc Fabregas is injured at the moment.

Chelsea certainly got their Premier League campaign under new boss Sarri underway in fine style last weekend as they waltzed past Huddersfield Town with a resounding 3-0 scoreline at the John Smith’s Stadium where they were rather dominant over David Wagner’s Terriers side.

This weekend the Blues face Unai Emery’s Arsenal side who really only managed damage limitation in their 2-0 home defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Champions Manchester City as the Gunners managed few attempts on goal, creating very limited chances.

The Italian boss has hinted that he wished Chelsea had been able to sign Gonzalo Higuain, who he worked with at Napoli but Sarri has expressed optimism for Alvaro Morata’s second season in the Premier League and thinks the Spaniard is ready to step up and be Chelsea’s main man.
