Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero would be a great fit for either Chelsea or Arsenal but he doesn’t expect either club to land the 32-year-old this summer.
Reports have suggested in recent days that the Blues are leading the race to sign the Argentinian international on a free transfer when his contract expires in June, but Merson expects the forward to move to La Liga instead:
“Sergio Aguero would fit like a glove at Chelsea or Arsenal – but I think he’s going to Spain. His next move is a big deal for him because he needs to be in a team that sees a lot of the ball and creates chances for him.”
It has been suggested that Aguero is keen on continuing his career in the Premier League so Merson could well be proven wrong in the coming weeks and months.
Barcelona would be his likeliest destination in Spain, but it is believed manager Ronald Koeman would prefer his side to sign Lyon’s Memphis Depay.
A return to Atletico Madrid or perhaps a move back to Argentina, where he could play for his first club Independiente, cannot be ruled out either but Chelsea have just as good a chance as anybody currently of snapping him up.
