Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting a stalemate when Chelsea face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Both clubs head into the fixture on Saturday after ending poor runs with victories in their last match but neither team is full of confidence, and Merson believes Graham Potter’s side will return from Merseyside with at least a point if they can stay in the game early on:

“This is going to be an interesting game. Chelsea have got injuries and aren’t playing great football, but if they can get through the first 20 minutes, they’ve got a chance… There’s not a lot between these two teams, and I think this game will end in a draw.”

Merson has gone with a 1-1 draw, which seems like a very fair prediction. Anfield is not the fortress it once was and each team is carrying plenty of injuries into the match, so it won’t be a typical Chelsea-Liverpool encounter full of quality.

If anything, it could well be a scrappy affair and, if new signing Mykhailo Mudryk is fit and available to feature, the Ukrainian could provide the cutting edge that the Blues need. Getting a positive result will go some way to getting the club’s season back on track.
