Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Chelsea Face Watford

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Chelsea to secure the three points when they travel to play Watford this evening.

While he believes the Hornets will cause Thomas Tuchel’s side problems, Merson says that the Blues should have more than enough to get a win at Vicarage Road:

“Chelsea dominated over the weekend, but Manchester United sat deep and didn’t give them any space. Timo Werner didn’t really look like scoring, and I think Kai Havertz’s intelligence could play a big part against Watford. Mason Mount was also a huge miss against Manchester United – he should be playing this game. It’s only a matter of time before Chelsea go back to steamrolling opponents, and I’d back them to win this match.”

Merson has gone with a 3-1 victory to Chelsea, which seems like a very fair prediction, considering what we know of the teams heading into the fixture.

Watford are coming off the back of a 4-2 defeat to Leicester last time out and Claudio Ranieri’s team are playing an expansive game, pressing high up the pitch.

However, they will be without some key players, such as Ismaila Sarr, due to injury and that will have a bearing on the result. You would back Chelsea to keep the home side out, whilst capitalising on the counter-attack. On paper, this should be a fairly comfortable win if everything goes to plan.
