Owen Makes Premier League Title Prediction That Chelsea Fans Will Love

BT Sport pundit Michael Owen is expecting Chelsea to challenge Liverpool for the league title next season, along with Manchester City and Manchester United.

The former England international says he believes Frank Lampard’s side are making the right moves in the transfer market, and he expects both the Blues and United to become title contenders, along with the current top two:

“Chelsea are showing a lot of intent with their signings. They’ve been banned from signing players for some while but now they’re making a big splash and they’ve got some youngsters coming in.”

“Frank Lampard looks like he has the bit between their teeth. There’s lots of teams that look like they could do it [challenge] but I think they’re the main two [as well as City].”

Chelsea have certainly set their stall out with wins over both City and Liverpool in recent months, and their signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech signal their intention to challenge next season.

However, Lampard will know more work will need to be done on the team’s consistency between now and whenever the 2020/21 campaign kicks off.

He was very unhappy with the Blues’ first-half performance against Leicester at the weekend, and while he got a reaction from his players, as well as making some half time changes, those type of displays will need to be stamped out for the London club to become serious challengers.
