Ornstein Names The Day That Chelsea Will Officially Announce The Signing Of Thiago Silva

Chelsea will officially announce the signing of Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva tomorrow, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The Brazilian has agreed to join the Blues on a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further season. The 35-year-old has undergone a medical ahead of the free transfer being finalised:

There have been some reports claiming that manager Frank Lampard will hand the captain’s armband to Silva, which will be a surprise considering the high regard that Cesar Azpilicueta is held in by both the players and the fans.

It remains to be seen if the Brazilian is given the responsibility but he will certainly offer a great deal of experience to the squad, having won numerous league titles during his time at PSG and AC Milan.

Silva’s age will be a concern to some, who may question whether he has the pace to cope with playing in the Premier League, but it is a calculated gamble by Lampard who needs to strengthen his backline.
