Chelsea are actively pursuing Inter Milan playmaker Nicolo Barella, according to Inter Live.

The website claims that the Blues are “on his trail”, along with Liverpool, Newcastle and Real Madrid, with the London club keen on recruiting a player of the Italian’s profile.

Barella has been integral to Inter’s run to the Champions League semi-finals, and the 26-year-old has racked up eight goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this campaign.

Chelsea are expected to be in the market for, at least, one midfielder, although that number could increase if N’Golo Kante leaves on a free transfer, and the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are sold.

Whether Barella would be open to making the switch to Stamford Bridge, though, it remains to be seen. With the Blues not having Champions League football next season, it could prove difficult to prise him away from Inter.

The Nerazzurri are not expected to let him leave on the cheap either, with Inter Live suggesting that the Serie A side will want at least €80m (£70m) for the player.
