Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic’s form has been in decline for a number of months, and supporters are beginning to wonder whether he deserves a place in the starting eleven.
The Croatian international has been one of the team’s most consistent performers in the past few seasons but he has looked well below his best recently. After another poor display against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, fans on Twitter have been discussing Kovacic:

The 28-year-old’s contract situation is likely to be playing on his mind. The fact that no extension seems to be in sight, despite closing in on the final twelve months of his current deal, suggests he could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for Kovacic. If he is seeking a move, manager Frank Lampard would be wise to bench him for the remaining games so that other players who are more committed to the club can get a chance.
