“Not Going To Leave” Romano Shuts Down Talk That Chelsea Will Pursue Deal For High Profile Keeper

Chelsea will not make a move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak before the transfer window shuts, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Guardian reporter took to Twitter yesterday to respond to questions over whether the Blues could table a bid for the Slovenian international, but the Italian journalist insists the shot-stopper won’t be switching clubs this summer:

Oblak’s sky-high release clause means a transfer away from Atletico was always unlikely and, with Chelsea having splashed out on Kai Havertz, the funds are unlikely to be in place to go after a high profile keeper.

It appears Rennes’ Eduoard Mendy is currently top of the list of priorities, with the Blues reportedly locked in talks about signing the Senegalese international. There have also been claims today that Frank Lampard’s side have been offered Ajax’s Andre Onana and Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola, with both keepers likely to be backup options if they can’t land their main target.
