Chelsea forward Kai Havertz did a lot of good work in build-up play against Malmo last night but his lack of goals are beginning to concern supporters.
The German international has been trusted with the number 9 role by manager Thomas Tuchel in the absence of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner but he has only scored three times in 15 appearances this season.
Fans on Twitter weren’t too critical of Havertz’s performance in Sweden yesterday evening but there are niggling doubts over whether the 22-year-old is likely to fulfil his full potential:
Not convincing, we've played him in every attacking position but we s don't know his favourite position.

Playing like a 10 mil player, not a 100

Meh, needs to do better

Insipid. Yet again. I just cannot see this ‘generational talent’ some speak of

Needs to do better in front of goal when he’s playing that role

loses the ball too often and misses far too many chances will never be 'great'.

Different perspective had he scored the last 1v1. His overall game seems to be getting better recent games, just needs to finish now

wasn’t bad but needs to be more clinical to play that Cf position

With young players, it is generally best just to be patient. The German undoubtedly has to do better if he wants to keep his place when the likes of Lukaku returns but he is still developing his game.
Whether Havertz will ever match the hype that surrounded him before his arrival at Stamford Bridge, it is unlikely, but he needs to be given more than 15 months before people make a definitive judgement on him.
