Norwich Reject Chelsea Bid For John Ruddy

Chelsea are currently very short in number in the goalkeeping department as they let the duo of Henrique Hilario and Ross Turnbull leave at the end of last season. They have also allowed young stopper Thibaut Courtois to rejoin Atletico Madrid for a third year straight loan deal. These moves have left the London club with just one recognized goalkeeper, in the form of Czech international, Petr Cech.

New manager Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a suitable back-up for Cech should there be a necessity, and has set his sights on Norwich’s John Ruddy. They made their initial advances when they launched a bid of £5 million, which included add-ons. However, this bid was immediately rejected. Norwich manager Chris Houghton is adamant of selling his goalkeeper only at the valuation which he feels is right, which is currently at £10 million.

Metro now reports that Hughton is holding out for that amount, as he lays out a rebuilding plan with the money he will receive from Ruddy’s sale. The 26-year old also broke into the English national team in August last year, however missed out on a big chunk of action last season with an injury. His absence gave a chance to Mark Bunn, who proved himself to be more than capable to fill in Ruddy’s shoes.

With Ruddy now back to fitness, he will have to slug it out with Bunn for a spot in the starting 11. It could be argued that Ruddy would prefer to be the second choice goalkeeper at Chelsea, than at Norwich City.

Do you feel that Mourinho’s Chelsea will give in to Norwich’s demands and pay them the £10 million they are asking for? Or will Chelsea’s might tempt Ruddy, who will in turn force his exit from the club which will leave them no option but to accept the lesser amount of money Chelsea are offering?

Though this story is still in its adolescent stage, we will keep you updated regarding any progress on this.
