No Mourinho-Modric Reunion At Chelsea

Mourinho made his name as one of the game’s best managers during his first spell at Chelsea from 2004-2007, which was laden with success and trophies. He then quit the club to try his luck in different leagues across the continent wherein he had stints at Inter Milan, followed by Real Madrid. He has finally returned to Chelsea after 6 long years. Now that he is back at the helm, the rumours have started doing the rounds as to who the Portuguese will sign in the coming weeks. A need to strengthen the midfield has been identified and as a result, Chelsea have been linked with Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.

The Croatian play maker was recruited by Mourinho to the Spanish capital last summer by paying a handsome £30 million for his services to Tottenham Hotspur, though the 27-year old has not been able to live up to the hefty transfer fee as he had a mixed first season at the Santiago Bernabeu. He received some heat during last season from the Spanish media for his inconsistent performances, who were branding him as the biggest flop of the season. A difficult and enduring debut season was expected to see him quit the hostile environment of Spain and perhaps return to English football.

However, Modric has spoken about his current situation and he has revealed that he has no intentions of quitting Real Madrid in the summer. He was reported by Metro as saying, “I’m not even thinking about the possibility I could leave Madrid this summer, but there is interest from other clubs.”

“Every kid who plays football dreams about playing for Real Madrid. It was the same with me.”

“Of course I was sad when Jose Mourinho left. He was the one who insisted in bringing me to Madrid. He is a fantastic coach and I am honoured to have worked with him.”

With Modric completely ruling out a summer move, who do you think will be the next midfielder to be linked with Chelsea?
