N’Golo Kante aiming hungry for more after World Cup success

N’Golo Kante says he is hungry for more trophies with Chelsea this season after winning the World Cup during the summer.

Kante starred in Russia, starting all seven games as as France lifted the trophy for only the second time in their history.

And the 27-year-old’s winners medal from the summer is just another accolade in an already impressive trophy cabinet.

As well the World Cup, Kante was won two Premier League titles (the first with Leicester City and the second with Chelsea), an FA Cup and he was named as the PFA Player of the year for the 2016/17 season.

Not content with his success however, the Frenchman says he wants more.

“It’s a new season, we all start from zero again, and that is the way our job is,” said Kante speaking of Chelsea’s ambitions for this season under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

“Whatever you did in the past is quickly forgotten. We all have to go again and prove we are worthy of our position. So, yeah, hopefully, I am able to do that again.”

Kante has risen from almost total obscurity to the lofty heights at which he now finds himself.

Playing in France’s third division with Boulogne only six seasons ago, the midfielder’s short journey from the lower realms of French football to a World champion with a reputation as one of the world’s finest midfielders has been astonishing.

Yet such quick successes have not changed Kante, with the 27-year-old remaining as humble as ever and one of football’s most universally revered characters.

“We are lucky to be playing football for a living. For me, this is what I have always wanted to do. To get to this level is all down to Allah’s blessing,” he said.

“There are millions of people out there, who every day want to get the opportunity to do the work we are doing and it’s a short career. That is why I give it my all at every given opportunity.

“I am lucky to get the opportunity to play for France and that alone is a huge motivation for me, whenever I go on the pitch.

“To represent one’s own country is one of the biggest achievements a footballer can get.

“To play for your nation on the world stage is worth more than money can ever buy, and I get to do that, so I am very fortunate.

“To win the World Cup in our colours was beyond my dreams and something I will never, ever forget.

“To be able to be part of that group will stay with us until the end of our lives because we know what winning the World Cup means to us.”
