Chelsea’s defence really struggled in the second half as Valencia threatened to overrun them. As manager Frank Lampard said after the game, they could have easily lost or even won the game last night.

One of the main culprits for the Blues’ openness at the back was Andreas Christensen who didn’t look up to the pace of the game. The Dane replaced Fikayo Tomori in the starting line up, with the centre-back partnering Kurt Zouma.

Supporters on Twitter were not impressed by Christensen or his partnership with Zouma:

There are some mitigating circumstances here. Christensen has not played a single minute for Chelsea since September so he was bound to be a bit rusty.

The 23-year-old was injured on international duty back in October and has had to wait for his chance since his return to fitness. After last night’s showing, though, I think it is safe to say that Tomori will be back in the eleven when the Blues face West Ham on Saturday.
