National Team Coach Reveals Defender “Tried Everything To Leave” Chelsea

Germany head coach Joachim Low has confirmed that Antonio Rudiger was desperate to leave Chelsea before the transfer window closed on Monday night.

The 27-year-old has not featured for the Blues in the Premier League this season, and Low said the defender was very keen on moving in order to make sure his place in Germany’s squad for the European Championships doesn’t come under threat:

“I was in constant contact with Toni Rudiger, he was keeping me in the loop. He had three or four options over the weekend but unfortunately, nothing materialised – he can try again in the winter… He tried everything to leave Chelsea because the European Championship is very important to him. I think he’ll try to leave again in the winter. He’s doing everything he can to stay in his best form.”

The four clubs that Low mentions are believed to be Tottenham, West Ham, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan but for different reasons, a move before the window shut did not happen.

Some reports have claimed that Rudiger was refusing to sign a contract extension before going out on loan, while others have suggested that he pulled out of a switch to Tottenham over fears of a fan backlash.

Whatever the truth, it seems the German will look to force through a move away from Stamford Bridge when the market reopens in three months time.
