Napoli star laughs off huge price tag amidst Chelsea rumours

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has laughed off speculation he could move to Chelsea for as much as £88 million this summer.

The Senegal international, who is currently at the World Cup in Russia with his country, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent seasons.

Chelsea attempted to move for Koulibaly last summer, however were put off by Napoli’s huge asking price, with the Serie A giants keen to hold on to one of their most prized assets.

Rumours are again circulating that Koulibaly could be Chelsea bound this summer, with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri expected to be named as the Blues’ new boss in the weeks to come.

And should Sarri replace Antonio Conte, Koulibaly is widely expected to follow his former boss to South West London.

Napoli’s asking price for the defender however remains as high as ever – the Italian’s valuing the Senegal international as high as £88 million.

When asked about speculation over his future, Koulibaly laughed off the astronomical fee being placed on his head in the media, however refused to rule out a move away from Napoli after the World Cup.

He said: “€100m, if you tell my parents this figure I think they’ll have a good laugh!

“This price is what the market dictates, I don’t think about it, I just try and do my best on the pitch.”

Senegal take on Colombia today in the final game of Group H, knowing a draw will be enough to see them through to the last-16.
