‘My Number 1’ ‘I Almost Forgot He Is Still A Chelsea Player’ Fans React As Blues Star Returns To Training After Four Months Out

Chelsea goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy has been pictured back in training for the first time since he underwent surgery on a broken finger.

The 31-year-old has not played for over four months, with his last competitive match coming against Newcastle back in mid-November. Kepa Arrizabalaga has established himself as first choice during the intervening period and, while some fans on Twitter have welcomed Mendy back into the fold, others are not overly fussed about his return:

Mendy will likely have to be patient for his chance. While Kepa has not been perfect in the Senegalese international’s absence, he has been solid for the most part and manager Graham Potter won’t drop him straight away.

It should also be pointed out that Mendy has rejected a new contract and, with it being suggested that he may leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, it may give Potter another reason to keep him out of the side. We shall see if he makes the matchday squad for this weekend’s game against Everton.
