Moyes’ First Task As United Boss – Address Rooney’s Future

Following Sir Alex Ferguson’s untimely and shocking decision to step down as Manchester United manager at the end of the current season, the footballing world went into overdrive guessing who was going to be his successor. SkySports News immediately had current Everton manager David Moyes in “pole-position” to replace Sir Alex in the Old Trafford hot seat and they were right as Moyes signed a 6 year deal with United yesterday.

Recent media reports have suggested that Wayne Rooney has been looking to leave the club, unhappy with his role in the team this season and the number of appearances and it is believed that he has already told Sir Alex of his wish to quit the club in the summer. The England international has somewhat been in the background this season following the high profile arrival of Robin van Persie, who has been on fire for pretty much the entire season, and Rooney has been forced to take a back seat for the Red Devils.

The season’s events have reportedly upset the 27-year old who was looking for a fresh start elsewhere. The rumors doing the rounds are that Chelsea are eyeing a sensational capture of the talisman, and are looking to test United’s resolve with a starting bid of £25 million.

In the very latest news, as the Irish Indepentent is reporting, Rooney is now prepared to do an about turn and change his mind on the back of Moyes’ appointment at United. Apparently the former Everton striker is open-minded to working with his old manager again having worked out their issues over Rooney’s book with the appropriate apologies.

Rooney and Moyes will more than likely be speaking sooner rather than later and perhaps the new manager will be able to appease the England international and keep him in the fold at United but if not can you imagine a monumental transfer of Rooney to Chelsea over the summer?
