Mourinho’s Return Was Not A Sure Thing

Mourinho’s Return Was Not A Sure Thing

More and more rumors have emerged after Mourinho’s not so brilliant start with Chelsea. The team seemed unexpectedly inconsistent and the atmosphere was a bit tense since the Portuguese’s return to Stamford Bridge. Fans were surprised especially because the club’s management repeatedly stated that the Special One was always their first choice.

Mou has been linked to the Blues ever since he left the first time. All major newspapers considered him the perfect fit for the London club even if he managed to win the Champions League with Inter after which he moved to one of the biggest clubs in football. Real Madrid’s management and players never looked like they were on the same page as Mourinho but their collaboration went on for 3 years. The time spent in Spain apparently made the Portuguese manager realize that the Premier League is his true home. Even if he did not specifically refer to Chelsea, people thought there was no other alternative for the man that revived the club in 2004. Because of that particular feeling and because of the fact that Benitez was only hired as an interim manager fans thought the path was always being set for Mourinho.

According to the Daily Mail, things were not quite as simple. There were a few others that were considered before finally giving Mourinho the managerial spot. After recent news referred to Swansea’s Michael Laudrup as one of Abramovich’s first choices over the summer, one other important name has emerged. As most people know, 46 year old Jurgen Klopp was and still is a true rising star among current European managers. Apparently, the Champions League runner-up had the chance to move to London if not for his love and dedication towards Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea was one of two big Premier League teams that circled the German manager who, luckily for his current team, considers Borussia just as big of a club as any other European side. He recently spoke about the offers received from England but said there was no chance of him leaving a project that had so much success even from the beginning with so much possible in the future.
