Mourinho’s Chelsea Getting More Serious About De Rossi

According to Metro, AS Roma star Daniele de Rossi could be closer to a move to Chelsea, after the Italian giants completed the signing of Kevin Strootman from PSV Eindhoven for a reported fee in the region of £15 million.

Jose Mourinho has been trying to get multiple deals over the line, and is most serious about his attempt at winning the Barclays Premier League title next season. To achieve this, Mourinho will have to refine the squad with new signings, and is considering stars all over Europe for next term. After losing out on the opportunity of signing Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who signed for AS Monaco, the Portuguese boss is now looking at other targets, and de Rossi is part of the wish list given to Roman Abramovich.

De Rossi has been at the Italian club his entire career, and has been instrumental in the success achieved by the club. His qualities as a hard working midfielder have been admired by various clubs, but they have all failed to tempt the player to leave his boyhood club. De Rossi, along with compatriot Francesco Totti have been an integral part of the club’s setup over the past decade.

Chelsea have also had a similar star in Frank Lampard, who at the age of 35, is nearing the end of his time at the club. The England international recently became the club’s highest goal scorer ever, and will want to finish his career on a high, representing England in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil next year. De Rossi, at 29-years of age, has a good number of years ahead of him, and Mourinho wants to introduce his experience to the squad.

Even though signing de Rossi would traditionally be a difficult task, Roma’s decision to sign Strootman has raised a few eyebrows among the fans and means Roma might be ready to let him leave as they already have Strootman as the replacement. This could only be good news for Chelsea, who will be ready to part with a big transfer fee, despite the relatively older age of de Rossi.
