Mourinho Wants Luiz At Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has praised his Brazilian defender David Luiz, after the center back was linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona, who have reportedly been quoted a price tag in the region of £46 million.

Luiz has been a strong influence in the Chelsea defence, and his aggressive approach to the game has made him a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian cannot be categorized as the perfect defender who tackles seamlessly, but his aggression in the opposition penalty area and ability to strike cleanly from long range has made him a utility player in the squad. There have been times where his anger has had the better of him, but more often than not, attackers do not get past Luiz with ease.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Luiz throughout the summer, and this comes on the back of the potential permanent defensive partnership between Gary Cahill and club captain John Terry.

According to ESPN, Mourinho has accepted that there are improvements needed in Luiz’s defending, but has appreciated the positive attitude possessed by the player and is confident of a quick revival.

Mourinho said, “David has come back with us fantastically and we have to use his quality,”

“He has big self-confidence and self-esteem, especially when he comes up from the back with the ball.”

“Can he improve defensively? Of course. But it is my job to try always to improve players.”
