Mourinho Wants Loaned Pair To Stay At Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has conceded that loan pair Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses will be welcomed back after their spells outside Chelsea, as both players were sent away from Stamford Bridge to Everton and Liverpool respectively on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea had begun their transfer activity from the beginning of the window earlier this summer, with different positions to address from the squad inherited by Jose Mourinho from last season. Mourinho’s return was a silver lining for some Chelsea fans, with lack of consistent domestic trophies concerning the club faithful. Prior to his return, the Portuguese boss had a successful stint at Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he won several trophies over his spell, with a powerful squad that won the league title back from Barcelona in his second year. His arrival at Chelsea saw him make decisions on various players, especially the ones that had cost the club heavy fees over the years. The hefty £50 million investment of the club in former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres left him with no choice but to keep the striker and try revitalizing his form on the pitch. With Mourinho’s popular man-management skills, there will be few who doubt the chances of Torres returning to form this season, and he will have Demba Ba and new signing Andre Schurrle for competition.

This left little space for Moses and Lukaku, both of who are relatively young strikers who have a long way to go in their careers. At the same time, this being the year that precedes the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, it is an important season for each player who has the chance of representing his country at the national stage.

Lukaku was sent on loan to West Bromwich Albion last season, where he had been scoring goals on a consistent basis, and gave him exposure to first team football in the Barclays Premier League.

Moses, who was bought from Wigan Athletic, also needs first team action this season, and will look to impress the Anfield faithful so as to eventually stake his claim to the Chelsea officials.

According to the The Evening Standard, Mourinho said, “Of course in the last day there are always things to do and people to leave because we have to think about us, as a team, as a group and as a club.

“But we have also to think about the players individually, what is the best for them and what is the best for us in terms of the future. We were more than happy to keep Moses and Lukaku but we decided that it’s better for the club and the future of the players if they go on loan.

“It is important for Lukaku. We have Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. He would have had chances to play but it’s another thing to play basically every weekend.”
