Mourinho To Replace Luiz With French International Raphael Varane

Chelsea need to fill in the gap left behind by Brazilian international, David Luiz who agreed to move to Paris. The 27 year old who became the most expensive defender in football history will provide The Blues with enough money to bid for Real’s Raphael Varane who worked with Mourinho for two years. The Portuguese manager who brought the French international from Lens in 2011 characterized the 21 year old as the best central defender in the world. That says a lot considering some of the names Mourinho has had the chance to work with.

Varane who despite being featured in this year’s Champions League final, has had a rough season with Pepe and Ramos being at the top of their form. The young defender was played in just 14 games which may influence his decision to join Chelsea. With Terry in what is going to probably be the last year of his career and with Cahill never actually managing to be as good as Luiz, Varane would have a great chance of getting a lot more on pitch time.

The Blues will have to move fast though. With only a couple of weeks left until the World Cup in Brazil, Varane is valued at £21million which is more than likely to turn into £30million if not more after the international competition is over. According to Metro, with Luiz bringing in £40-50 million (depending on where who you listen to) Chelsea will look to make a profit in order to invest more in a striker rather than a defender regardless of his qualities.
