Mourinho To Pursue Rooney Till Transfer Deadline Day!

The Chelsea manager has already started reshaping the squad inherited from former interim manager Rafael Benitez by bringing in the likes of Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle.

He has also added cover in the goalkeeping department with the acquisition of veteran Mark Schwarzer, whereas last season’s loaned out players like Michael Essien, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne will also be given a chance to excel at Stamford Bridge.

However, Mourinho is eyeing one last piece of business before the transfer window closes on the final day of August. The 50-year-old is desperate to land a striker and has identified a move for United’s Rooney to lead the attack for the Blues’ next term.

The England international had confirmed his desire to leave Old Trafford to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson after ten trophy-laden years at the club. However, United are standing firm and have categorically stated that the 27-year-old is not for sale.

Rooney is reportedly considering a transfer request as he looks to force his way out of United. The forward has already seen his club reject two bids for his service from Chelsea, the latest being an offer in the region of £25 million.

Chelsea are still hell-bent on the striker and are supposedly considering a third bid for his signature. According to ESPN, Mourinho has now said that he will chase Rooney until the final day of the transfer window.

Speaking after Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of former club Real Madrid, Mourinho said he will try and lure Rooney to the Bridge in an ethical manner till the transfer window closes.

He said, “We are far away so we are not in England to know every detail but we are doing things in the correct way. We made the bid and Manchester United have reacted. Let’s see what happens. But we can’t do more than we are doing now.”

He added, “We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club, no interviews or comments or direct relations with the player, no contact, absolutely nothing. We are doing everything in an ethical way, so let’s see if things change.”

“There is no time limit. We have our squad of strikers. We have identified the player as one we would like to have with us. We have done it in an ethical way and we are going to do that until the last day. And we will see how it comes.”
