Mourinho Still Determined To Get Rooney

Jose Mourinho has declared in the media his continued interest to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, and while the fact of the matter is that Chelsea have seen two bids rejected from their counterparts, the ‘Special One’ has suggested that the club will keep fighting to get the deal done over the course of the remainder of the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese manager was the centre of attention for Hull City’s visit to Stamford Bridge this Sunday, and while expectations were high of the squad, supporters had a renewed belief due to the sheer presence of the new manager, who enters his second stint at the club. The Blues looked a confident unit who played an attacking brand of football throughout the first half, with an early goal coming in from Brazilian maestro Oscar. Fernando Torres was given the spot in the starting eleven, and the Spaniard contributed well to his side’s performance, despite not being able to get on the scoresheet.

Club legend Frank Lampard had an emotional afternoon, as he did not get to the best of starts after missing a penalty in the first five minutes of the game. But the England international was never out of the picture, as he scored from long range through a free kick that was struck sweetly by the clinical midfielder. Chelsea could not replicate the same impact in the second half, as Hull came back into the game, as they introduced new signings Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore in their team. The Blues retained their lead however, and picked up three points, wrapping up a happy day for Mourinho.

Rooney was also a part of the Manchester United squad that played on Saturday’s late kickoff, and came on in the second half looking rather discontent. Even during celebrations of Robin van Persie’s second goal, Rooney was seen walking alone back to his half, which was enough to convince fans that the striker’s thoughts were on a move away from the club.

According to Metro, Mourinho did not categorically suggest Rooney’s name, but indicated a further bid for the former Everton striker.

Mourinho said, “We will try till the last day to add a new player to the squad, a striker, but in this moment every striker has a club, every striker belongs to somebody and I don’t think it’s ethical that I name players that belong to other clubs,”

“We don’t try, like many clubs do, to go around and try to influence players to behave in a certain way.”

“If we have to make a bid, we make it in an official way, we don’t speak to players, we speak to clubs.”
