Mourinho Set To Make Surprising Move For Tiago

Chelsea are rumored to be targeting Atletico’s Tiago who could represent a great alternative to the freshly transferred Matic who also returned to Stamford Bridge after being sold to Benfica. It is well-known that Mourinho is willing to play older more experienced players during the season just as he did with Essien while at Real Madrid or with Eto’o since returning to London. According to Metro, Tiago first came to Chelsea back in in 2004 but managed to last just one season before joining Lyon. His contract is about to expire in one month’s time which means he could easily join Mourinho for at least one more season of football at the highest level.

The 33 year old who was offered some generous contracts last year refused to leave Madrid. He justified his decision as he was an important part of the team which managed to win La Liga this season. He still looks capable of performing at the highest level possible which is exactly what Chelsea need. It would be a bit strange though to bring in Tiago after letting Lampard leave should that happen. The two are hard to separate because both had great seasons. Even if Lampard is older, he still managed to help his team on many occasions with key goals etc. He is more than capable of playing for at least one more season so there would be no sense in signing a new player for just one year when they could easily keep the former English international.
