Mourinho Seems Like The Main Reason For Fabregas’s Choice

Fabregas’s choice to join Chelsea is one of the most surprising moves of the summer so far. Arsenal’s former captain chose to move back to London, knowing very well how big of a rivalry there is between the Gunners and the Blues. According to the Daily Mail, Fabregas, who was already criticized by fans for joining Barcelona, held talks with Arsenal before choosing Stamford Bridge. Wenger told the Spaniard there is no room for him anymore as Ozil is currently playing in Fabregas’s former position

Arsenal could have activated a buy-back clause stipulated in the Barcelona deal but decided not to take Fabregas back. The Spanish international spoke about his relationship with Wenger briefly during a press conference held after Spain’s horrible loss against the Netherlands. Apparently, the 27 year old wanted to hear he is needed wherever he goes. This was not the case with Arsenal who already have the midfield secured by Ramsey, Wilshere and Ozil.

Arsenal’s former captain, although pretty reserved in his comments regarding his decision to join Chelsea, also pointed out that Mourinho played a big part in his choice. The Portuguese boss probably promised Fabregas a spot in his starting line-up which is exactly what he has been missing while at Barcelona.

The Gunners are better off signing a striker rather than another midfielder. The mid-section of the pitch is currently their strongest point so there was no actual reason for activating the buy-back clause.
