Mourinho Secured Eto’o Reunion After United Game Showed Rooney Move Unlikely

Yesterday, Jose Mourinho made one of the biggest signings of the summer when he signed Samuel Eto’o from FC Anzhi Makhachkala on a 1 year deal reuniting the Portuguese manager with the former Barcelona striker who he won the Champions League with while they were both with Inter Milan.

Surely Eto’o solves the Chelsea striking problem and where it leaves Torres and Ba we can only guess but they both must have slipped down the pecking order now if they are even in the managers plans at all.

Speaking after the United match on Monday night about Manchester United and Wayne Rooney ESPNFC quoted Mourinho as saying, “This club must be a very special club because at every club in the world, when the player wants to leave they [the fans] don’t support him,”

“When a player wants to leave, they give him a hard time — but [here] they support him all the way, so I think this is a real special club with special fans so he decides that he wants to stay. If that is his decision, then we will be the first to respect that.”

Mourinho also said that he would be waiting just for the next 48 hours for Rooney to make a move, before giving up and chasing alternatives. “We are going to [sign] another player if he is not coming. If he is not coming, I want to close another player. How long will we wait? 24, 48 hours.”

So clearly Jose Mourinho was a man of his word as he moved quickly and while it was not just 48 hours he waited it was only about 72 hours before he made the deal to reunite with the 3 time Champions League winner and four-time African Player of the Year, Samuel Eto’o.

The signing of Eto’o shows that Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho have certainly put their past differences behind them and are a unified team who are set on winning the Premier League again. When you look at it, clearly Chelsea are the winners (if you can call them that) of the summer transfer window and have left the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal way behind them.

Hopefully “winning” the transfer window translates into us winning the League and the Champions League too.
