Mourinho Sealed Chelsea Return in Five Minutes!

After spending three years at the Bernabeu, Mourinho announced his departure from Real Madrid at the end of the campaign, with numerous reports already linking him with the Chelsea job. The Portuguese manager kept dropping subtle hints about his return to Stamford Bridge during the latter stages of his spell in Madrid, suggesting that he wanted to return to a place where he is loved – home.

The 50-year-old enjoyed a stellar first spell at the club, winning six trophies in three years including two Premier League titles, before making his acrimonious departure. After successful spells at Inter Milan and Real Madrid, the Portuguese tactician wanted to come back to Chelsea to take care of his unfinished business.

And true to all the recent reports, Chelsea officially announced the re-signing of their most successful manager on Monday. Mourinho flew to London from Madrid in order to sign a four-year deal to replace Rafael Benitez at Stamford Bridge for next season.

According to Metro, Mourinho decided his Chelsea return in a mere five minutes. The report suggests that Mourinho met Abramovich over a possible deal to return as boss, and both mutually agreed on the Portuguese’s return in five minutes.

He said, “I met the owner and in five minutes after a couple of very short questions we decided straight away,’ he said. ‘I asked the boss, “do you want me back?” and the boss asked me, “do you want to come back?” and in a couple of minutes, the decision was made.”

Mourinho left the London side abruptly during his first spell after a fall-out with Abramovich. Even though he won six trophies during his short stint, he failed to deliver the Champions League. However, after flirting with the Cup in recent seasons, Chelsea finally got their hands on Europe’s prized asset after defeating Bayern Munich on penalties last year.

Mourinho claims the club’s decision to part ways with him seems justified since they did win the big one, the Champions League. He also feels that he can once again be successful at the club.

He said, “It was a difficult moment because I love it here. But if you analyse it in a cool way and you leave emotions a bit apart, I think it was fantastic. Now we are back together, so I think we are ready to marry again and to be happy and successful again.”

After self-professing the moniker ‘The Special One’ during his first press conference as Chelsea boss last time around, Mourinho has no new nicknames to confer upon himself but revealed that he is a fan just like all the Blues’ supporters.

He said, “Now I promise exactly the same things in 2004, but the difference now is, I am one of you.”
