Mourinho Ratchets Up The Mind Games

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has not left an opportunity to spite Barclays Premier League title rivals Manchester City before they hosted La Liga champions Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League knockout round on Tuesday which the Citizens ultimately lost 2-0.

City have been neck and neck with Chelsea in the title race, and Manuel Pellegrini will be pleased with the fact that his side are in contention for the big trophy. However, Tuesday night saw City play Barcelona, a side known to attack on all fronts without respite.

Without Sergio Aguero in the squad, City’s attack looked weak, but the recent emergence of Stevan Jovetic after injury gave the side a good chance to get a result at the Etihad Stadium but it was to no avail as they could not get on the score sheet. Jovetic missed the entirety of the first half of the campaign following his big money move from Fiorentina, but had opened his scoring account for City recently and had looked sharp since returning, giving fans hope for Tuesday night which ultimately delivered nothing as City were beaten by the Catalan giants.

The game changed after Demichelis was sent off with Messi converting the resulting penalty and Barca had enough to add another goal and leave City with a monumental task to turn around a 2-0 deficit at the Camp Nou with 2 away goals to deal with.

Chelsea, on the other hand, face Galatasaray at Istanbul later this month, after facing Everton at Stamford Bridge this week. Mourinho’s men are in the lead in the title race, and the Portuguese has intensified the mind games before the game by suggesting City had a chance on Tuesday simply due to the fact that the current Barcelona squad is the worst in recent times. Who knows if it had an effect but if i had to say I am sure Mourinho’s comments were of no help to City.
